“Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.” ― attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson
Lisa and I recently completed building a creative retreat in Florida near the gulf coast to serve as a peaceful spot for her to write and for me to compose and record my music. The home was built on the edge of a placid pond, which we have discovered is home to numerous colorful fish, turtles, cranes, herons, and at least one reasonably sized alligator. When I am not composing and recording music inside, I love to sit in the back yard to observe this beautiful, peaceful miracle of nature. As I take in the beauty of this scene, I am reminded that I can learn so much if I will make time to be present and unhurried. The turtles sunning themselves on the grassy shore of the pond and the long-legged birds contentedly standing in the shade under the trees seem to teach me that if I will slow down and adopt the pace of nature, I can connect with greater things.
“The Pace of Nature” features Nicole Pinnell on cello along with my daughter Mackenzie Tolk's beautiful voice.
